About The Brand


Deception is a Toronto-based streetwear brand that focuses on offering European-style clothing to North American customers. When they got in touch with us, they had already been running for over 1 year and had tens of thousands of followers on social media channels, which was on of the main drivers of sales.

The Problem

During the brand's inception the founders had built the store themselves using a free Shopify theme. The store was able to process transactions but there was a lot of room for improvement in the UX, especially in the product pages.

Customers would complain after purchasing a product that the fitting was either too tight or too loose - this information was available on the website but the old build prevented customers from easily seeing it or navigating to the right page to get more information.

We predict that the poor design was also costing sales as it did not offer a purchase experience that online consumers are used to.

What we did:

We fully redesigned the storefront using a premium theme and adding in necessary additional features for sizing and product details, so customers have clear information form the product page on what they're getting, before they make a purchase. The new product page layout also greatly increased the speed of which a customer could make a purchase decision because all necessary information was organised much better than before.

We also implemented a separate design for Deception's limited edition Primrose Path clothing in order to distinguish the more luxury products for customers that are interested in them.

One major feature that was added was the Loyalty System - this is something all of Deception's competitors were already using successfully so it was a no-brainer to implement it with the goal of retaining more customers.

After launching the redesign, Deception's saw the following results

  • Increase in sales
  • Customer complaints decreased by 50%
  • Spike of new reviews due to loyalty programme incentives
  • Increased CLV in the months following the re-design
